How to Make the Most Out of Your Online Summer Internship
Sometimes during the summer, it is hard to get away from home or even find an internship close to home, so that is why there is such a thing as online internships. I myself, have received one from College Fashionista as one of their #StyleGuru’s for the summer. Now, with any internship there are many things you have to do before you finish in order to make sure you get the most of it. With online internships, there are a lot of things you can’t do because you aren’t there in person, but you still have a lot to that you need to take in and get done.
One of the top priorities in all internships is to make connections. Connections can carry on with you for the rest of your life. They can be the difference between a job recommendation and a real job for when you graduate. Be sure, when you start the job to get your name out there. Since my internship is very social media based, I tried to find other member’s of the #StyleGuruGang and follow them on Instagram and leave comments on their posts! My specific internship also has a lot of opportunities to meet people higher up. We could have conference calls, instagram and twitter #FashionTalks with designers, marketers, etc. etc. These are connections that could possibly get me another internship, in person, or even a big girl job for after college.
Learn as Much as You Can
First piece Take notes… on everything. Do not miss a single chance to learn something that could come in handy later. You will learn so much every day, even if it’s learning how to get things in on-time and learning how to get work done without being in an office setting. You most likely will get to come in contact with very amazing people and they will teach you so many things that WILL come in handy later in your career. This time is your prime to get as much information as possible. Ask questions, even if you think they are stupid. Learn everything you are doing right and wrong, take the criticism as it comes and learn from it. That’s why it is constructive criticism. And accept all advice given. Make friends with the people you are working with you and learn from them, especially from those who have been their longer than you have.
At the end of the job, try and see if you can get back some criticism about how you have done. Ask questions about you job, such as ways to improve and what did they think you did best, etc. It is best to know what you excelled at and what isn’t your strongest suit.
Understand Time Management
As many of you know, time management isn’t everyone’s strong suit! Sometimes talking about it is way easier than being good at it! But, with an online internship you are not stuck somewhere having to do stuff during specific times etc, etc. Most online internships, such as mine, gives you deadlines and you go from there! As long as you get your stuff in on time, they don’t care when you get it done! That also means, you have to work on not doing things at the last minute because let’s be honest, you never know what might happen!
Anyway! I hope this helps you all with your future online endeavors! I know internships are hard and online ones aren’t always the worst!
